Faces (A Tanka Poem)

There are faces

And there are masks that people wear

Being politically correct

Happy faces, sad faces, pretentious faces

Hiding true self to inner confines.

Being Happy

Its NaBloPoMo month, and I have committed to make a post every day of this month. Its rather late in the day and time is running short. Yet I feel calm and composed. Its a good day and tomorrow promises to be even better. I open my diary of penned thoughts, feeling happy. A loose sheet falls to the ground. Its my Being Happy poem penned years ago! Very Wordsworth inspired. But I love it and its relevant for me even today. Thanks for the inspiration William Wordsworth.

Being Happy

When I am happy,
Its like my spirit let loose.
Over terraced hills and shaded plains,
Free and boundless,
To soar.

When I feel happy,
Its like bubbles sprouting,
Over the  brink of a glass of soda.
Free again, and boundless,
Dancing in merry excitement.

When I am happy,
I feel the world is beautiful,
Full of so many treasures,
which had hitherto
Remained unexplored.

Tomorrow If I Die

Sometimes I may be foolish

In what I speak or how I act,

As I don’t measure my words

Or think to act age appropriate.

I take merry go round rides

And jump on trampolines!

Sometimes I may love to dress up

and wear makeup,

And at other times, stay barefaced and plain

as per my wish.

Often, I follow my whims and fancies

And care not for critics.

For tomorrow if I die,

I have no regrets!

Musings (Tanka Poetry)

Musings to think that life is not really a struggle, the ‘Tanka’ way!

Life is boring?
Add spice,be mysterious.
Rise from the mundane,
Travel,capture and conquer.
Yet strive for peace with inner-self.

A tanka poem comprises 5 lines of 5,7,5,7,7 syllables each in that order. Write and read tanka to make life unboring!

Aging (Tanka)

Another year draws to a close, with the beautiful promise of new beginnings and also the reminder of having added one more year to our lives. We should consider ourselves really blessed and lucky to be able to continue to enjoy all that life has to offer. Aging should be accepted gracefully, as at all stages of life there is always something meaningful to look forward to. I thoroughly believe in staying young at heart! There are some days though, when an aching shoulder in the wee hours of the morning ( Lol) may inspire you to pen a ‘Tanka’ poem as I did below:

Aching bones and joints
Threaten to trouble with age
Skin begins to sag
With streaks of silver in hair
Can I trap age in a cage?

Weather Beaten

Weather beaten,
old and skeletal
The markings, being proof
of my mettle.
Interesting still,
full of intrigue,
Still beautiful, still bountiful.
For beauty-
Lies in the eyes of the beholder.

I found this leaf on the jogging track at my favourite place in Chandigarh- Leisure Valley. Though withering old and imperfect, it was captivating enough to hold my attention. Old can be gold. Do you agree?
Somehow it looks quite (extra)ordinary. It inspired me to write the poem above using the device of enjambment.

COLOURS OF LIFE

Reminiscing about life there is always the tendency to drift away in your thoughts; because life exists in its many splendid colours! The mood today is poetic, and hence exploring the colours of life through the poetic forms of a prose poem with some internal rhyme.

Life is like a multi-hued rainbow –

Life is for musings;  like cocooned in a warm winter glow!

Yet sometimes, life is not a bed of roses,

Yes sometimes, life is like a pain, waiting in vain.

Life is not to be taken for granted, it’s like living in a garden enchanted!

Remember-

Life is for loving,

Life is for living.

Live the 86400 seconds of every day of your life fully!!
